Dermatology case discussion: How would you manage this acne patient?
Case discussion: A 29-year-old female patient of Indian heritage presents with moderate papulopustular acne. What is your management plan?

Welcome to a new series of General Dermatology case discussions, presented and moderated by Dr Dianne King and brought to you by La Roche Posay.
In this case, we have a 29-year-old female patient of Indian heritage who works in a restaurant (hot and humid environment) and was diagnosed with PCOS in 2019.
She presents with:
- Moderate papulopustular acne
- Deeper cysts with tenderness
- Comedonal on forehead
In addition:
- Her acne has worsened since immigrating to Australia in 2018.
- She uses daily sunscreen (since immigrating).
- Dairy products worsen her condition.
- She has used Benzac over the counter, but felt worse.
What is your treatment plan for this patient?

Update
Dr Dianne King's management plan was:
- Check insulin levels
- Trimethoprim 300 mg bd 6/52
- Blue/red phototherapy for 6/52
- Continue current cleanser and topical Retrieve nocte
At the patient's 8-week review:
- Much improved
- Finished trimethoprim after one month
- Occasional papules
- Less pustulation
- Started using Dermaroller / vitamin C serum at night prior to Retrieve
