In this short video, Brisbane GP Dr Karyn Huntley talks about her journey in medicine over the past three decades.

"About 15 years ago, I felt I had de-skilled in many of the things I used to do in rural general practice."

Dr Huntley says she decided to upskill in skin cancer medicine to brush-up on her knowledge so she can meet patient demand for skin cancer care in Australia through effective diagnosis and treatment.

She explores why she loves general practice, including the joy she gets out of being involved in the intimate lives of the patients she cares for.

"I like the holistic nature, and having a wide variety in my day."

Dr Huntley talks about some of the challenges she faces as a GP, as well as the most rewarding experiences she has had, including her shift from a contracted doctor to a practice owner.

She also gives some advice to other GPs based on her experiences over the past 30 years in medicine.
